AGAVE MARIA

Barrel-Aged Strong Ale, 13.5% ABV

An Agave-based Strong Ale, Agave Maria is The Lost Abbey’s first venture into oak aging in Tequila barrels to hit distribution.

Using a blend of Anejo and Reposado barrels and aged for a minimum of ten months, Agave Maria has hints of black pepper, sweet sugar, oatmeal, and oak with an earthy, bitter smoked chocolate on the finish. The base beer, a new Agave strong ale, was created specifically to pair with the spiciness of the Tequila, adding a sweet honey-like quality to the beer.

CARNEVALE ALE

Saison with Brett, 8% ABV

Brewed in celebration of Lent and Easter season, Carnevale is light bodied saison, using Brettanomyces along with amarillo and simcoe hops to generate flavor and depth. Carnevale’s complexity grows with time. The citrus notes tend to wane and the wild yeast rears its wonderfully tasting head. Moderately spicy nose with hints of tropical fruits and toasted biscuits. Some tangerine and apricot help round out the citrus notes. Mildly sweet with subtle pop, the carbonation helps introduce the deep flavor of Brett to the palate.

GIFT OF THE MAGI

Farmhouse Lager with Brett, 12% ABV

It seems that everyone knows the story of the Three Kings. Sent to follow the star in the sky each brought a gift for the baby they sought. One king brought gold, the other frankincense and the other myrrh. Many breweries produce a Christmas seasonal beer and this is our beer to celebrate the holiday season. Gold in color and bittered with the bark of frankincense, we have even used the smallest amount of myrrh which is an herb that has roots in ancient winemaking as well. A massive golden ale fit for a king (or queen) we offer the Gift of the Magi each holiday season.

SERPENT’S STOUT

Imperial Stout, 11% ABV

The history of the bible and religion is indeed the struggle of good vs. evil. Our Serpent’s Stout recognizes the evil of the dark side that we all struggle with. This is a massively thick and opaque beer that begs the saints to join the sinners in their path to a black existence. Pours dark and thick, with a creamy mocha-colored head and aromas of roasted malts, dark chocolate and french roast coffee. The mouthfeel is full, smooth and round on the tongue. The taste is rich with deep roasted malts, cocoa, coffee and a touch of vanilla balanced perfectly against the alcohol to create an excellent winter warmer.

TEN COMMANDMENTS

Dark Spiced Farmhouse Ale with Brett, 12% ABV

A stronger version of our Lost and Found Abbey Dubbel Ale brewed to a more contemplative alcohol content. Massive in every stretch of the brewing way possible this is the sort of beer that will remind a beer drinker who considers themselves a saint that even saints stray as sinners from time to time. The initial perception in this beer is that of fruits – especially raisins. It has an herbal component from the rosemary as well. The beer manifests much of the dark malts that are in the beer as well as some of the yeast phenols from the saison style yeast at work. There are lots of ingredients playing well here. First we blacken raisins making their presence felt. This is followed by some dark malt caramel sweetness and a drying presence from the chocolate and more roasted malts. The rosemary is subtle but not under valued in its presence.

WITCH’S WIT

White Ale brewed with Orange Peel and Spice, 5.5% ABV

There are tons of esters present in the beer as well as a soft yeast note. This beer has also been spiced with grapefruit zest, orange peel and coriander. Each of these is subtly stated so as to not overwhelm the nose of the beer. Most definitely, this first and foremost a wheat ale. You can taste the wheat from start to finish. A faint toasted note from the addition of flaked oats is present in the beer as well. This is a light bodied beer that finishes with a spicy layer in the end. The overall impression should be an easy-to-drink refreshing ale.
